AN Albion Park businessman has convinced a magistrate his elaborate hydroponic marijuana plants were to relieve his chronic pain.

Grant Lynch, 33, pleaded guilty in Albion Park Local Court to cultivating and possessing three large plants in his garage.

The court heard police searched Lynch's house on January 22 and discovered an elaborate hydroponic system in the garage consisting of lights, transformers, ducting system and airconditioner.

Lynch told police the drugs were to relieve back pain from a car accident in 1990.

He tendered several medical reports to back this up.

Magistrate Robert Walker found the offences proved but dismissed both charges.

He ordered the drugs and equipment be destroyed.
